My mother was an amerature astronomer and a lover of the star’s. When I was fretting as a teenager she would say, “come outside and look at Saturn”. That became our metaphor for all things bigger than us and helped to measure petty, very quickly. In her library was a huge book of Ancient Civilizations that filled my lap and my daydreams with far away places and possibilities we can’t see, yet. When she died my step dad bought a star in her name in the constellation of the Swan, Cygnus. We always believed we would meet there later for tea and ice cream.
